Outreach from Calvary
From it's beginnings in 1867 right through to the present day, Calvary has always understood itself to be a church integral to the wider community of Golden. We have the responsibility and privilege, in imitation of Jesus, to seek and serve the least, the last and the lost. This takes place through many and varied initiatives and partnerships.
St. Francis Center
Volunteers serve at this day shelter for the homeless during the week, and the 4th Sunday morning of each month. We also provide a wide variety of donations on a regular basis and monthly monetary assistance.
Golden Backpack Program and Snack-n-Wagon
Calvary partners with the Golden Rotary Club and the community to provide food on the weekends and during the summer for hungry school-age children in Golden.
Golden Neighborhood Rehab Project
Calvary provides monetary support and volunteers who participate in the annual Day of Service event that rehabs the homes of seniors, disabled and limit income members of our community.
Golden Community Garden/Together Church Plot
Volunteers from our church and other local churches grow vegetables which are then distributed to those with limited access to fresh vegetables.
The Salvation Army Golden Service Extension Unit (SEU)
Calvary houses this ministry and serves on the Golden SEU Committee. A large number of members ring bells each year to raise funds that are used to assist Golden area residents with rent, utilities and prescriptions.
Golden Rescue Fund
Calvary houses this community-based resource that provides emergency assistance with lodging, gas, bus passes, food and prescriptions for those traveling through our community, as well as residents who find themselves in need.
Calvary Food Shelf
A team of Calvary members manages the Food Shelf and the weekly donations of food, which is regularly accessed by individuals and families in our community needing this type of assistance.
Golden Christian Action Guild and The Action Center
Monetary donations, as well as offerings of food, clothing and other items, are given to these two organizations who help individuals and families meet their basic needs.
Calvary provides monetary and volunteer support for this local non-profit that works to increase access in the community to local, fresh food. The sale of their CSA (community supported agriculture) shares supports various outreach programs that focus on specific populations who have limited access to fresh vegetables and fruit.
Freshwater Project International
Calvary provides financial support for this local, non-profit organization, led by one of our members. They work in Malawi, Africa, to bring fresh water and sanitation systems to schools and villages in rural areas of this country.
Filters for Families, Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota
Calvary works with this non-profit organization, led by one of our members, to support their efforts to install water filters in homes in order to remove heavy metals and toxins found in the groundwater. In addition to providing funds, Calvary members periodically travel to the reservation to assist with water testing, distribution and education.
